Sensing an impending apocalypse, the Chainsaw Man Church orchestrated a global massacre to tarnish Chainsaw Man’s reputation.

As a result, Denji was forced to use his powers, a forbidden act that led to his capture and dismemberment by Public Safety.

Soonafter, Asa Mitaka (and a strange cast of bedfellows) rescued him. But unlike the rest – who want revenge against Chainsaw Man – Asa intends to save Denji by separating him from his devilish counterpart.

Denji eventually promises a fight, but only after they find Nayuta, who separated from him in the chaos. The group, consisting of the Katana Devil, Asa Mitaka, Devil Hunter Club members, Yoru and Fami, all agree.

One traumatic event leads to another, and the group find themselves in a sushi restaurant where they meet Barem Bridge, the Chainsaw Man cult’s number two.

He forces Denji to partake in the sushi as he talks about the church’s plans to resurrect the true Chainsaw Devil, stating that they needed everyone to fear Chainsaw Man to unlock his potential.

Another factor that they needed was Denji’s “true unhappiness”, so he revealed Nayuta’s severed head on one of the sushi platters.

This causes Denji to snap and rip Barem’s head from his shoulders. As this happens, Denji’s large intestine bursts from his stomach and wraps itself around his neck before he transforms into the black Chainsaw Devil.

Outside, we’re shown the Public Safety arriving at the scene. Two divisions gear up, including Special Division 5, a new posse made of unfamiliar fiends and special demihumans.
