The Scott Pilgrim Takes Off anime is an all-star collaboration between its original creator and its numerous adaptations — and its first, stylish teaser is a sign of good things to come.

Created by Bryan Lee O’Malley as a series of graphic novels, Scott Pilgrim’s titular character is a slacker and part-time musician who falls in love with Ramona Flowers — and must thus embark on a journey through Ramona’s past, battling seven of her evil exes.

The teaser got O’Malley’s art style in the original graphic novels exactly right, complete with some kinetic action sequences depicting Scott Pilgrim and Ramona’s evil exes.

The teaser is overlaid with a performance from Scott’s band, Sex Bob-Omb. While we didn’t get to hear many of the voice cast in action, we did get to hear Alison Pill’s Kim Pine, Ellen Wong’s Knives Chau, and Mark Webber’s Stephen Stills.

The cast of the 2010 live-action film, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, is reprising their roles, which includes stars like Chris Evans, Brie Larson, Michael Cera, and Anna Kendrick. Its director, Edgar Wright, returns as an executive producer.

Joseph Trapanese (The Witcher, Tron: Legacy, The Greatest Showman) will compose the series’ soundtrack, while Anamanaguchi, who provided songs for the film’s video game adaptation, will also be contributing.

The Japanese animation studio Science SARU — frequent Netflix collaborators — is responsible for the look of the show. Known for combining traditional hand-drawn and digital animation techniques, Science SARU is a critically acclaimed studio that worked on The Night is Short, Walk on Girl, The Tatami Time Machine Blues, and Devilman Crybaby.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off releases on Netflix on November 17.
