Game remakes have become a common trend in the gaming industry, and some have performed exceptionally. Some examples are Resident Evil, Dead Space, Yakuza Kiwami, and more.

Good graphics have been a priority in modern remakes, as older audiences would get to see their favorites in a new light. For newer generations, this would be a way to get into gaming classics.

However, just having great visuals is not enough for remakes, as audiences expect improvements in gameplay which was earlier limited by technology.

All the games mentioned in this article do not follow a specific ranking order and are just suggestions.

Since there have been many great releases in the past, not all might make it into this list. Without further ado, here are our picks for the top five games that deserve a remake.

The difference between game remake and remaster

There is a common misconception between remakes and remasters. A game remaster mainly tweaks a few features or makes some graphical adjustments based on the original.

A remake on the other hand is a full recreation of an older title on a newer game engine. Since the game has to be made from scratch, it takes more time and effort.

Need For Speed Most Wanted is the most popular game in NFS history with 16 million sales worldwide. The numbers are even higher as it is one of the most pirated games ever.

Electronic Arts did manage to create a similarly thrilling experience with Need For Speed Heat, but not like Most Wanted.

Remedy Entertainment officially confirmed Max Payne remakes are in development. However, the next step should be remaking Alan Wake 1 using the latest development tool available.

Alan Wake 2 did gain a lot of traction and even secured various awards at the BAFTA and The Game Awards for its narrative and art direction.

Alan Wake 1 could use a similar approach for its storytelling and improve the gameplay which felt monotone. Additionally, it would also streamline the visual storytelling experience.

The chances of getting Alan Wake 1 remake soon are not much as Remedy Entertainment is packed with the development of Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes.

Moreover, Alan Wake Remasted was released in 2021, and it has only been a while since. But again, it would be great to play the masterpiece once more with updated graphics and gameplay.

Capcom has focused on Resident Evil remakes which get enough attention during every release. However, the Devil May Cry franchise deserves similar affection for many reasons.

The Devil May Cry franchise is known for its exceptional hack-and-slash experience which is stylish and gore. The game remains fun today, the only downside being its outdated graphics.

A Devil May Cry anime has also been revealed in late 2023, which might lead to gaining more fans. Game adaptations have even proven beneficial for game sales and Fallout is the biggest example.

Capcom might be following this trend for the Devil May Cry franchise as well. If the show performs well, the likelihood of it being remade would increase drastically.

Furthermore, a Devil May Cry remake could be a great opportunity for Capcom to garner more audiences during the current decade.

Half-Life 2 is probably one of the most influential and well-known titles in video game history. Furthermore, the Counter-Strike franchise wouldn’t exist if the Half-Life series wasn’t developed.

While a fan-made remake exists for the first original Half-Life game (Black Mesa), having the sequel remade wouldn’t hurt. Now, whether Valve will take the mantle or not lies in mystery.

Half-Life Alyx (2020) proved that Valve is not done with the Half-Life series, which is good news for fans. With the active development of the Source 2 engine, Valve might be onto making Half-Life 3.

A Half-Life 2 remake would be a tedious job to take on as it would include the development of Episodes 1 and 2 as well. Both these stories are important to the franchise, as it has a huge cliffhanger.

With many games being remade in recent years, it would be a treat to see the entire Half-Life franchise remade with shiny graphics and gameplay improvement.
