Remember to change your Honkai Star Rail team comp before this cut-scene Penacony boss fight

Warning: Major spoilers if you haven’t completed “Through a Glass Darkly” Honkai Star Rail 2.0 quest.

The first major Penacony boss fight happens in the Memory Zone.

After Firefly confesses to you her real identify on the rooftop, the Trailblazer decides it’s time to regroup with the Astral Express crew at Golden Hour.

Before you take a single step back into The Reverie in The Dreamscape, Sparkle reveals her true colors — it was never Sampo who walked with you, but rather, her shapeshifting in disguise.

With a flick of a finger, she sends both you and Firefly into what she called “the real Dreamscape,” which kickstarts the Through a Glass Darkly quest.

This Penacony boss only has three elemental weaknesses, so you’ll need to pick the right Honkai Star Rail team composition

The first thing you’ll notice in the Memory Zone is that there are words hovering in every corner, which is rather… weird. Then again, what hasn’t been?

When you meet up with Firefly, she shares that this landscape is very likely connected to The Watchmaker’s Legacy and the secrets The Family has been hiding.

Here, you’ll get acquainted with the Dreamwalker mechanic where you use Bubble Charges to build Bubble Bridges to navigate 360 degree rooms. You’ll also solve a jigsaw and a Dreamticker puzzle.

Once you reach the part of the quest where you inevitably open a suspicious chest, that’s when you’ll need to be on alert.

The quest will ask you to “Leave this place through any portal” repeatedly, forcing you to run about in circles and end up in the room full of TVs for a total of five times.

The moment Firefly says “The TVs are so bright, it’s hurting my eyes… Careful, something’s up…,” that’s your cue that the Penacony boss fight cut-scene is about to trigger.

Now is the best time to prepare the right team composition, for there won’t be any further warning.

A cut-scene occurs and a purple Flygon-esque monster appears. We learn that its name is Memory Zone Meme “Something Unto Death”.

It only has three elemental weaknesses: Fire, Wind, and Imaginary.

As you can see in the screenshot below, I was clearly not equipped with the best team composition, which is why I’m writing this guide so that you don’t make the same mistake.

If you have a DoT team comprising Himeko and Sampo, it’s even better, but not necessary to win.

Why? Because of the boss’ unique mechanic, Morbid Dream.

During battle, it enters a state called Sunset, which gains stacks when you attack it. When it reaches three stacks, it triggers Morbid Dream, which removes one character or more from your party.

You’ll see them greyed out in a cocoon opposite you called Sombrous Speculcher. To save them, you’ll need to attack the Speculcher and bring the orange bars down to zero.

Once you do, they’ll immediately return to your team. DoT damage speeds up this process and is especially useful in the second phase of battle when more than one member gets tied up.
